Ofcom ban 3 year contracts

From 26 May 2011 Ofcom ruled that the tie in period for new phone or broadband contracts will be limited to a maximum of 24 months and consumers and businesses must also be offered a choice of contract lasting no longer than 12 months.

Ofcom Rulings on Early Termination Charges
Ofcom ruled that consumers who end contracts early should never have to pay more than the payments left under the contract in fact they should often pay less, to reflect the costs providers save because the contract ends early.
